A CHARITY firework display set to fizzle out due to lack of funding should now go with a bang after being saved by an anonymous donation.

Redditch Lions Club had given up hope of holding its annual display at the Nevill Arms in Astwood Bank after the business which usually sponsors the event was unable to do so.

Organisers felt they could not afford to buy such a large amount of fireworks and make a profit for the club's welfare projects without an unfairly high entrance fee.

The display was saved when a local businessman, who wishes to remain anonymous, stepped in.

He agreed to buy fireworks worth £1,000 for the display on the condition a donation was made to Birmingham Children's Hospice.

All are welcome to the display in the field next to the Nevill Arms car park at 6.30pm for 7.15pm on Friday.

Attractions include hot food and drinks, live music from Hospital Radio Pulse and a blow-up slide for children.

Entry is £2 for adults and free for children under 16. All profits will go to Birmingham Children's Hospital, Redditch's Alexandra Hospital children's ward and Redditch Lions Club local welfare projects.
