REMEMBRANCE Day will be marked in Alcester with a number of parades and services next weekend.

The town branch of the Royal British Legion will hold two separate parades next Saturday and Sunday.

On Saturday, a two-minute silence will be held at 11am at the war memorial in Alcester, following a parade by Legion members.

In the evening a special concert is planned at the Greig Sports Hall at 7.30pm where Alcester Male Voice Choir, Victoria Silver Band and Ladies Choir will entertain guests.

About 15 visiting standards from across the county will be at the hall. Tickets cost £7 from 15 Church Street or the flower shop by Somerfield.

Sunday's parade will begin in Bleachfield Street at 10.30am and will end at St Nicholas Church where there will be an open air service and wreath laying. There will be another service inside the church immediately afterwards.

Chairman of the Alcester branch of the Royal British Legion, Bill Malin, said it would be a big weekend for the town.

He added: "Sunday will see Scouts, Guides, Brownies and firefighters taking part in the parade and the whole length of High Street will be full of people.

"A lot of residents enjoy the outside service and take part in it all and it is important that we have a lot of youth organisations involved too as it keeps the memory alive.

"We have a strong community aspect in Alcester and this weekend helps keep us connected."
