THE third Studley duck race was a fantastic and enjoyable success, say organisers.

Held by the Redditch Lions Club, 1,500 little plastic ducks were recently tipped over the bridge on the A435 by the Studley Cricket Club, into the river Arrow.

The ducks bobbed and bounced down the river passing rapids and whirlpools before arriving at the finishing line, 35 minutes later.

Phil Lawrence, from Redditch Lions said: “It was good for the ducks. For the rest of us, we got nearly as wet as them in the rain that poured down just before the race started.

“A good number of people braved the weather though and came to see the ducks race down the river.”

Also available on the day was the chance for people to try their hand at laser clay shooting, archery and a tombola and hot and cold refreshments were available.

Mr Lawrence added: “It was a great day and we would like to thank all who supported the race.”

The first three ducks across the line won £100, £50 and £25 with a number of consolation prizes also given out.

All profits made will go toward the lions club to help it carry out its work in the community.
