A TEACHING assistant in Alcester proved she’d got more than one string to her bow, when she recently won the European Masters archery event.

Linda Haines, who works in the English department at Alcester Academy, came second in a field of 13 contenders for the 2x30m qualification round in Lignano Sabbiadoro, Italy, when the winning archer shot a world record.

However she came up through the competition as second seed and eventually faced her opponent, Italian, Laura Gnocchi in the final, beating her 7-3.

She said: “It was a fantastic experience to be part of a multi sport event with around 4000 competitors with around 150 taking part in the archery event. You are never too old to reach for your dreams in life.’
