SEVERN Trent Water is stopping work for the day in Stock Green, near Inkberrow, and re-opening the Earls Common Road so the Droitwich Half Marathon can take place on Sunday, March 6.

Severn Trent is working with Morgan Sindall plc. to connect Stock Green to the public sewerage system making septic tanks and cess pits a thing of the past.

The new sewerage system is being constructed in two sections. Work on the first section started in November 2010 when construction began on a rising main, running from the junction of Earls Common Road and Middle Road to Priest Bridge Waste Water Treatment Works.

The second section involves the construction of a vacuum sewer in Earls Common Road through Stock Green to the junction with Middle Road.

Severn Trent has been working with the local Highways Authority to make sure the work can be carried out safely and quickly. There will be a temporary road closure on Earls Common Road while the company constructs the vacuum sewerage system through the village.

The road closure started on January 10 and will be in place until the end of April 2011 but the closure will be lifted this Sunday to allow runners to complete the half marathon.
