REDDITCH man Cliff Swift will undertake a gruelling eight day cycle ride around Vietnam’s isolated countryside for the Foundation of Conductive Education (FCE), which helps disabled children and adults lead more independent lives.

The challenge in November will push Cliff to his limits, as the journey sees him travel over a series of unforgiving terrains in the Hanoi region in central Northern Vietnam. The 400 mile route will take in steep, endless up hill climbs, long winding descents and across sparse, uninhabited valleys. But before the trip can even begin Cliff must raise the £3,250 needed to get the trip off the ground.

Cliff, an independent financial advisor said: “The challenge is set to be the most challenge I have ever put myself through. “The terrain is set to be tough but I’m sure the knowledge that every single penny raised will be going to help those that need it most will be fuel enough to keep me going.

“I need to ensure I raise the necessary funds to participate. My friends and family have dug really deep but we need to raise as much as we possibly can. “We need to break the £3,250 limit to take part, but our ultimate aim is to raise more than £5,000 to make certain that FCE can continue to do the fantastic work it carries out.”

The FCE, based in Moseley, eaches children and adults with neurological conditions to overcome their movement problems, showing them just what they are capable of and giving them the will to achieve amazing results. Charity fundraiser Dominga Devitt said: “Cliff is one of our most dedicated supporters and has done a great deal of fundraising for us. “As a small local charity, we rely on local heroes like Cliff to help us to continue to provide our vital, life-changing services.”
