A DETECTIVE chief inspector from Redditch will be trying to raise £2,000 for charity when he takes part in the London Marathon.

Damian Barratt, working in the field of public protection for West Mercia Police, will be running in aid of the NSPCC.

The money raised will go toward making a difference for children in the UK by standing up for their rights and ending cruelty to children.

Damian, who works at West Mercia HQ in Worcester, said: “I took up running as part of my retirement from playing football. This will be my first marathon.

“I decided to do it because of a desire to run the marathon with, what I see, is a great opportunity to raise money for a cause I have a particular affinity with.”

He added: “The money raised could cover the cost of all freephone calls to one Childline counsellor for four and a half years or cover the cost of 16 days of individual therapeutic sessions between a trained social worker and a child affected by domestic abuse.”
