Football club backs Redditch's bid to become Town of Culture

Redditch United has announced its 'full support' for the town's bid, saying that it backs a vision that celebrates 'creativity, heritage, and community spirit' across Redditch.

The bid, led by Redditch Borough Council and partners from across the region, aims to showcase the unique stories of the town while driving economic growth, social regeneration and a lasting cultural legacy.

If Redditch's bid was successful, it would lead to government investment of £3million in the town, with the aim of delivering a year-long festival of culture.

In support of the town's bid, Redditch United chairman David Faulkner said: "We are incredibly proud to support Redditch’s bid to become Town of Culture 2028.

"This town has a rich history, a passionate community and a growing cultural scene that deserves national recognition.

"At Redditch United, we see every week how football brings people together, and we believe culture does the same.

"This bid is about civic pride, about telling our story, and about creating something lasting for future generations."

The Town of Culture 2028 bid has also been backed by Redditch MP Chris Bloore who, in recent weeks, has written an open letter to former One Direction star Harry Styles.

Styles, who was born in Alexandra Hospital, has been asked by Bloore to back Redditch's bid, calling it a 'once-in-a-generation' chance to celebrate the town's heritage.

He said: "For young people here, he’s living proof you can go from Redditch to the world stage.

"From producing 90 per cent of the world’s needles to shaping music through legends like John Bonham and Harry, we’ve always punched above our weight.

"This is a once-in-a-generation chance to celebrate our heritage, creativity and future talent and show the country what makes Redditch truly special.”
