A NEW youth initiative aimed at supporting socially isolated young people has opened up in Redditch.
The Launch Pad is an initiative designed for young people who feel socially isolated, have experienced bullying, or struggle to fit in with traditional peer groups.
It has been established by former staff from the Redicentre who were laid off at Christmas after a new board took over Redditch Youth and Community Enterprise (RYCE).
The team have now stepped out independently to create a new space for young people in the town.
Rich Lewis, project lead at Launch Pad, said the team are passionate about creating a space where young people feel accepted and supported.
“We are over the moon to be offering Launch Pad in Redditch,” he said.
“It is an honour to be able to support young people that may not necessarily be able to be themselves with the pressures of wider society and have a much needed place to call their own.”
Bringing together staff with more than 30 years of combined experience working with young people, Launch Pad will provide a safe and inclusive environment where individuality and creativity are encouraged.
Sessions will focus on helping young people build confidence, independence and life skills, with activities including cooking and baking, sewing, arts and crafts, games, team building and therapeutic sessions.
Organisers say the project will also provide emotional support for young people who may be dealing with personal challenges.
"We already have 22 kids signed up in the first week which is amazing. There is a huge need for a group like this especially in Redditch.
"We have a strong dedicated band of volunteers who have jumped up at the chance to help and make this project come alive, it means a lot to us.
The Launch Pad is based at the Old Needleworks on Britten Street.
Rich added: “We are also very grateful for the support of the UP Foundation in supporting this project at the Old Needleworks Foundation for offering a home for us.
"For our young people we know that from here, they can go anywhere.”
The sessions take place between 4.30 and 6pm every Thursday and are £3 per session.
