New plan to improve walking and cycling in Redditch

Worcestershire County Council has published the Redditch Local Cycling and Walking Infrastructure Plan (LCWIP), a long-term vision of how to make these activities accessible and attractive for everyone.

The plan follows public engagement held in 2024, during which residents, businesses and community groups shared their views on how to improve walking and cycling connections across Redditch.

Councillor Karl Perks, Worcestershire County Council’s cabinet member with responsibility for highways and transport, said: "The Redditch LCWIP sets out a clear framework for improving walking and cycling routes across the town, helping residents choose how they travel for everyday journeys.

"Redditch already has a strong network of paths and cycleways, and this plan will build on that foundation, focusing on safety, accessibility and better connections between neighbourhoods, schools and key destinations."

Feedback gathered during the engagement shaped the final version of the plan, ensuring it reflects local priorities and supports healthier, more sustainable travel options.

The LCWIP includes five priority routes, alongside a walking and wheeling zone in Redditch town centre.

Although LCWIPs do not come with direct funding, having an adopted plan allows the council and its partners to bid for future investment as new funding opportunities for active travel arise.

The Redditch LCWIP also supports broader council aims around health, wellbeing and sustainable transport across the county.

The LCWIP is part of Worcestershire County Council’s wider programme to develop similar plans for towns across the county, including Wyre Forest, Evesham and South Worcestershire, covering Droitwich, Malvern, Pershore and Worcester city.
