The family-run business, founded in 1975 by John and June Carter and now led by their daughter Vivienne, has become a cornerstone of the local community. Carters’ 30,000 sq. ft. showroom on New Road features nearly 100 beautifully styled displays, showcasing leading brands like Parker Knoll, G Plan, Ercol, La-Z-Boy, Parker Knoll, and more. Their recently renovated Stressless studio holds the largest selection of Stressless furniture in the UK, offering a unique experience for those looking for premium comfort and design.
Next door at their sister store, Bed City, customers will also find the largest Harrison Spinks display in UK, alongside a wide selection of other trusted names such as Hypnos, Vi-Spring, Sealy, and Silentnight.
Despite the new Sunday closure, Carters is keen to reassure customers that they remain very much open for business—both in-store and online.

Vivienne adds: “For those who genuinely need to visit on a Sunday, we’re happy to offer private appointments by request. We’re here for our customers — just in a way that allows us to care for our team too.”
