Kidderminster’s iconic furniture retailer, Carters Furniture, is reaffirming its commitment to people over profit by introducing a new Sunday closure — giving their dedicated team a well-earned day of rest to spend with their families.
The family-run business, founded in 1975 by John and June Carter and now led by their daughter Vivienne, has become a cornerstone of the local community. Known for its exceptional customer service, thoughtfully curated showroom, and unwavering commitment to quality, Carters has always taken pride in being more than just a retailer —it’s a family.
“We’ve always said we treat our customers like family, and that starts with treating our staff the same way,” said Vivienne. “Closing on Sundays gives our incredible team the opportunity to rest, recharge, and spend quality time with their loved ones. It's something we believe deeply in as a family-run business.”
Carters’ 30,000 sq. ft. showroom on New Road features nearly 100 beautifully styled displays, showcasing leading brands like Parker Knoll, G Plan, Ercol, La-Z-Boy, Parker Knoll, and more. Their recently renovated Stressless studio holds the largest selection of Stressless furniture in the UK, offering a unique experience for those looking for premium comfort and design.
Next door at their sister store, Bed City, customers will also find the largest Harrison Spinks display in UK, alongside a wide selection of other trusted names such as Hypnos, Vi-Spring, Sealy, and Silentnight.
Despite the new Sunday closure, Carters is keen to reassure customers that they remain very much open for business—both in-store and online.
“Our doors are open six days a week, and our full range is available to browse and buy online 24/7.”
Vivienne adds: “For those who genuinely need to visit on a Sunday, we’re happy to offer private appointments by request. We’re here for our customers — just in a way that allows us to care for our team too.”
Customer service has always been at the heart of Carters’ success. From the very beginning, John and June Carter instilled a deep respect for customers and staff alike — a legacy that continues today. The team is known for its attentive, knowledgeable, and pressure-free approach, creating a welcoming space where visitors can explore at their own pace.
“This change is simply about putting people first — just as we always have,” Vivienne said, adding: “We want our team to thrive, so they can continue giving our customers the very best.”
As the business continues to evolve, one thing remains constant: Carters’ dedication to quality, service, and community. Whether you're visiting the showroom or shopping online from the comfort of home, the Carters experience remains as reliable and customer-focused as ever.
Carters Furniture and Bed City will now be closed on Sundays starting September 21, 2025, but are still open Monday to Saturday.
