TWO gardens at the Alexandra Hospital have been given a major makeover by more than 30 volunteers.
Led by the Redditch 41 Club, part of the Redditch Round Table family, the project transformed an overgrown courtyard and the League of Friends coffee shop garden into welcoming spaces for patients, visitors and staff.
The gardens were officially opened on Saturday, August 30 by the Mayor of Redditch, Joanna Kane.
The courtyard near the Same Day Emergency Care unit is now a bright and accessible garden with new seating, decorative features, fresh gravel, bark and plants.
The League of Friends coffee shop garden was also refurbished.
The work was carried out over three weeks with the help of local businesses and volunteers from as far away as Melton Mowbray.
Peter Dance, chair of Redditch 41 Club, said: "I am incredibly proud of the work that the Redditch 41 Club has accomplished.
"It may have started as a small idea, but the entire team came together to make it a reality.
"I’m truly proud of this achievement.
"The transformation was a genuine community effort."
The Redditch 41 Club expressed gratitude to their supporters who helped make this transformation possible including Redditch Round Table, Ladies Circle, Never Mind, Tangent, Morris Mica, Davis's Aggregates, Dorma Plant Hire, and Robinsons Tree Surgery.
The dedication of everyone involved was crucial in turning a small idea into a significant achievement for the community.
Mayor Joanna Kane praised the efforts, stating: "This new garden is a wonderful example of community spirit.
"It will provide a much-needed green space for reflection and relaxation at the hospital.
"I want to thank the 41 Club for their hard work and commitment to making Redditch a better place."
The gardens are now open for everyone to enjoy, serving as a testament to what can be achieved when a community comes together.
