A teenager was seriously injured after she was hit by a car on Sunday (May 5). 

Emergency services were called to Acklam Road in Thornaby at about 6.40pm, following reports of a crash involving a pedestrian and a car. 

After arriving on the scene, police found a teenager who had sustained a broken tibia and head injuries during the collision. 

She was taken to hospital for further treatment - but police have confirmed that the injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

Cleveland Police didn't release information about what happened to the driver of the vehicle.

A spokesperson for the police force said: "Officers were called to a collision involving a vehicle and a pedestrian on Acklam Road, Thornaby, at around 6.40pm on Sunday, May 5.

"A teenager suffered a broken tibia and head injuries and she was taken to hospital where her injuries were not deemed to be life-threatening."
