A PLAN to bulldoze a curry house, which was formerly home to a pub, to make way for a new convenience store has been revealed.

A planning application has been submitted to Redditch Borough Council seeking to demolish the building in Headless Cross, Redditch, and build a new shop with parking.

The site is currently home to the Massalla Club Indian restaurant and was previously The Archers pub.

The Massalla Club has said the restaurant is still open for business and the restaurant will remain open at the site during the application process.

Bengeworth Property Investment Ltd is the company behind the new application.

According to the planning statement: "This planning application seeks full planning permission for the demolition of the existing building and construction of a convenience store and associated car park, on land south of Birchfield Road and east of Feckenham Road, Redditch.

"The applicant is proposing to demolish the existing former public house building and erect a new local convenience store.

"Fifteen car parking spaces including two disabled spaces and two electric vehicle spaces will be provided to the front of the building. In addition, provision has been made for cycle parking to actively encourage this sustainable mode of transport.

"The proposed development would have a single access/egress to and from Feckenham Road and dedicated servicing bay".

The applicant highlights that the plan represents an "opportunity to develop brownfield site making efficient use of the land available to provide a conveniently located additional offering of a convenience store with on-site parking for use by existing and future residents in the local area and also passing vehicles from the locality".
