PLANS to rebuild a set of industrial units destroyed by a fire in Redditch have been approved.

The proposals, which were submitted to Redditch Borough Council by AEW Architects and Designers Ltd on September 26, 2023, were approved on Thursday, February 22 and will see six new industrial units built on Padgets Lane.

The redevelopment is set to closely mirror the neighbouring buildings on the South Moons Moat Industrial Estate and will include office and warehouse space as well as designated loading areas and car parking for staff.

Describing the new site, the design and access statement submitted by AEW Architects said: "The warehouse areas will be clad in a vertical profile built up cladding system in a mid grey tone from the ground floor up to the transition strip at haunch height.

"Above that is a lighter grey horizontally laid profile cladding up to the parapet capping. Entrances to each unit are framed with a blue portico feature cladding with offices clad in a grey horizontal composite cladding system.

"The framed entrances break up the massing of the façade and provide visual rhythm along the key elevation."

The site has been left derelict since it was destroyed in a fire in May 2022.

More than 50 firefighters from Hereford and Worcester Fire Service were called to tackle the blaze which “significantly damaged” Redhill Manufacturing.

At the time, resident Al Jones said: "I was just preparing to go out for a walk and there was a kind of shudder.

"There was a tremor or something. I thought it was a mini earthquake. I was dreading what was happening as someone could be hurt."

Residents described popping noises that sounded like a car backfiring as the propane cylinders exploded on the site.

No casualties were reported in the incident with Redhill Manufacturing later relocating.
