Pupils in Redditch were left disappointed after their school was forced to shut this week.

Feckenham CE Primary School had no choice but to close its doors on Monday (December 4) after the heavy rainfall left the area flooded.

As the rain continued to fall on Tuesday (December 5), it was looking like students would face another day away from learning until Ridgeway Secondary School stepped in and saved the day.

The secondary school made three classrooms available for pupils in Years 2 to 6 whilst Feckenham Village Hall supported the youngest pupils with a base for the day.

Headteacher at Feckenham Primary School, Jeannette Little, said: “We were determined to support pupils and their families and not lose another day due to closure of the school.

“Pupils have really enjoyed seeing what it’s like in a small secondary school and, as well as having a classroom to learn in today, they experienced so much more.

“We would like to say thank you to both Ridgeway Secondary School and Feckenham Village Hall for their help.”

Pupils from Year 2 upwards enjoyed a full day of learning and also put on a performance, singing for parents as they came to pick them up after school.

Experiencing life in a secondary school has also led to great feedback from parents and carer whilst the younger pupils enjoyed delivering a concert to elderly residents by singing carols in Feckenham Village Hall.

Headteacher at Ridgeway Secondary School, Matt Ball, said: “It has been a delight to host the pupils from Feckenham. They seem to have had a great time and quite a few have asked if they can stay as it has been such a fun day.”

Mrs Little added: “We have asked the council to support us in identifying and actioning ways to keep Swansbrook Lane open after heavy rain. They have responded positively and offered support to reduce the risk of the school having to close in the future.”
