HAPPINESS, shock and gratitude were just some of the emotions GCSE students were feeling as they picked up their results on Thursday morning.

Several students from Nunnery Wood High School said they did better than they expected when they opened their results.

Anna Filippoava is from Ukraine and has been studying in Worcester for the past year.

She said: "English schools have made new people out of us all. 

"We have learned to change for the better since coming here."

Illarion Voitenko said: "Moving from Ukraine almost destroyed me, but school actually saved me.

"It brought consistency back into my life."

Henry Welsby said he was happy with his results and he got eight nines. 

"He said the day has gone really well, I did better than I expected."

Sam Caskie was also really happy with his results and said he was excited for his future.

Head Girl Sophie Cockeram said she was hoping for sevens when she sat her exams.

But opened her results to find out she got five nine's, two eights and three sevens.

"I'm hoping to possibly study law at university, but I'm not sure.

"We're going out for a meal to celebrate."

Head Boy Gabriel Boxall said the day was going really well.

He said: "In year seven, everyone told me it would go by really quick and it has, it feels very surreal to be here."

Gabriel said he hopes to pursue a career in music.

Hazel Homer is hoping to go to sixth form and university where she wants to study creative writing and become an author.

The budding writer said: "I am very happy, I am in shock a little.

"I did a lot better than I was hoping for."

Stephen Powell, headteacher, said: "School staff are immensely proud of our students’ achievements. 

"Congratulations to all of them – and all other students across Worcester.

"As ever, we have students achieving a ‘full-house’ of top grade 9s in every subject.

"We also have students who have achieved well despite facing personal challenges.

"Everyone of them, of course, began their GCSEs after two years of Covid disruption. We are proud of them all and wish them well as they begin their lives beyond Nunnery."
