A MARRIED couple from a Redditch care home visited the Alexandra Hospital on the 75th anniversary of the NHS to thank staff for their hard work.

Handing out birthday cakes and thank you cards, Jean Franklin aged 95 and her 94-year-old husband Douglas accompanied by staff members from Millcroft Care Home told each NHS staff member they met how much they appreciated their dedication to care.

The NHS came into being on July 5, 1948, and was launched by then health secretary Aneurin Bevan at Park Hospital in Manchester – today known as Trafford General Hospital.

Claire Jones, a staff nurse at Alexandra Hospital, said: “It is so lovely of Millcroft to think about all of the staff here at the hospital and to thank us for all we do.

“It was especially nice of Mr and Mrs Franklin to come in to say thank you as well, it just shows how long the NHS has been supporting the community”.

Jean said it was ‘lovely’ to thank staff personally whilst Douglas said: “The NHS are always so busy, so it has been great to come and say thank you.”

Every Friday at 10.30am Milcroft Care Home holds a Blue Light Breakfast for key workers, where they can visit the home and grab a breakfast sandwich and hot drink.
