A CONSULTATION has been launched for the redevelopment proposals of Redditch Railway Station.

Coinciding with the public consultation, which is running until Monday, August 7, new illustrative plans have been released of what the station could look like.

The plans include the construction of a new two-storey accessible station building including a ticket office, passenger waiting areas, toilets, and retail unit.

The capital cost of the project is expected to be £ 11 million (excluding land acquisition), which is funded by Worcestershire County Council and a Worcestershire Local Enterprise Partnership Getting Building Funding award.

Councillor Marc Bayliss, Worcestershire County Council’s Cabinet Member for Economy, Infrastructure and Skills said:

“I feel very positive and excited about our plans for Redditch Railway Station and I’m keen to hear the feedback from residents, businesses, and visitors to see what they think.

“The station will be a key transport interchange and provide a welcoming gateway to the town centre, improving access to employment, education, leisure, and travel opportunities. It will be brilliant to see this planned investment come to fruition, bringing benefits for years to come and becoming a station we can all be proud of.’’

A landscaped public space in front of the station will also be created along with an upgraded crossing over Unicorn Hill to the bus interchange, the Kingfisher Shopping Centre and Redditch town centre.

New improved cycleways on Unicorn Hill and cycle storage facilities at the station will also be provided.

Residents, businesses, and stakeholders can view the designs and comment via a feedback survey under the Have your Say tab on the dedicated Redditch Railway Station pages of the county council website.

Several community drop-in events are being held at the Kingfisher Shopping Centre by Boots on Friday, July 7 from 10am to 1pm and Saturday, July 8 from 10am to 1pm.

The pubic feedback will be used to inform the development of the proposals before the submission of a planning application later this year.

Redditch Railway Station is the final destination on the Cross-City railway line from Birmingham.
