A motorway near Redditch will close tonight.

The M42 Southbound will be shut from 9pm tonight between junctions 3 and 3A.

This is to allow National Highways to work on upgrades to the central barrier.

The existing steel barrier is being replaced with a "stronger and more efficient" concrete barrier.

These upgrades are set to be completed by Spring 2024, with several more closures in the foreseeable future.

Furthermore, due to recent adverse weather, National Highways is having to make repairs to the hard shoulder which has suffered damage.

Parts of the hard shoulder are having to be resurfaced to ensure "a smooth running lane".

The M42 will reopen at 6am on Sunday, March 19.

Motorists are advised to use the following diversions: M42 NB, A34, B4146, A4040, Wheelers Lane, A435 to M42 J3.
