POLICE have shut down an unauthorised encampment at a car park in Redditch.

More than 20 caravans were parked by Arrow Valley Visitors Centre, with police instructing travellers to leave the site on Thursday (March 2).

Redditch Police confirmed last night that the car park was cleared as of 7pm.

Inspector Richard Field said: "To confirm, the unauthorised encampment has been successfully removed, and the site has been secured.

"Residents can now use this car park to visit Arrow Valley Lake".

Redditch MP Rachel Maclean thanked police for their "swift action".

Police and Crime Commissioner John Campion said: "Swift action from the local police and partners in Redditch to bring this incident to a conclusion.

"I know the impact illegal encampments in locations such as this can have on our local community.

"I am very grateful for the proactive policing that helped resolve it".

He added: "It’s disappointing to understand the huge clean-up operation that has to follow".
