A SPECIAL educational needs co-ordinator has been praised for ‘going above and beyond’ for pupils.

Cathryn Yeomans, who works at Ipsley Middle School in Redditch, has been nominated for a Special Education Needs (SENCO) Award at this year’s Worcestershire Education Awards.

Cathryn, who also works as a Year Seven and Eight English teacher said she was shocked to find out she had been nominated.

The 29-year-old who has worked at the school for three years has been described as ‘passionate, kind, caring and understanding’.

Emma Taylor, a parent of a child whom Cathryn supports said she is an ‘amazing and unique SENCO’.

“Miss Yeomans gives SEND children a voice, she advocates for them and makes school accessible.

“Nothing is too much trouble for her.

“If Miss Yeomans says that she is going to do something you know that as a parent that she will do this.”

Emma’s daughter, Issy, has cerebral palsy and a diagnosis of Autistic Spectrum Disorder which had led to barriers in education but Cathryn, has ‘smashed all of these’ alongside Issy.

“Miss Yeomans has given my child a voice within education, without her hard work and dedication Issy would not be able to attend school,” added Emma.

“As a parent of a child of SEND it is such a relief to know that an amazing person such as Miss Yeomans is there every step of the way with Issy and her journey through Ipsley Middle School.”

Cathryn, who has always worked in the teaching industry said ‘she tries to do her best for all of the pupils’ and is ‘so happy’ to be nominated for an award.
