A COUPLE has made their dreams come true – opening their first coffee shop in Redditch.

Jey Nagaratnam and his wife Priya Sarawana have taken the plunge and opened ‘Coffee Day’ on Shakespeare Avenue in Lodge Park.

The premises, which was previously a laundrette, has been empty for some time so needed a full refurbishment.

Jey said he wants to ‘create a small hub for the community’ and is creating ‘Toddle Tuesdays’ and ‘Pensioner Mornings’ to bring people together.

The 38-year-old, who previously owned a grocery shop, has worked in a coffee shop for 13 to 14 years.

Jey said he felt the time was right to finally work on his dream of owning his own.

An official ribbon cutting ceremony to mark the grand opening was held on Saturday, October 22 which was attended by county councillor, Andy Fry who said that the business will be ‘very welcome in Lodge Park’.

Cllr Fry said: “This will make a great addition to Lodge Park and completes the small parade of shops on Shakespeare Avenue off Studley Road where you will be warmly greeted with lovely internal decorations adding quality and finesse.”

Coffee Day serves a range of toasties, sandwiches, cakes, and hot drinks.
