REDDITCH Borough Council’s cash office is set to close its doors due to decreasing numbers.

Moves to close the service, at the Town Hall were approved by the Council’s Executive at a meeting on July 12 following reports of reduced customers.

The council say no redundancies will be made as part of the changes as affected staff will be redeployed.

In the run-up to the closure, on September 30, customer services advisors will be working with residents to help them find and set up new ways to pay for bills such as rent and Council tax.

These include cash or card at Post Office, Paypoint or Payzone locations, making online and phone payments to the Council and setting up direct debits and standing orders.

Portfolio holder for finance, Cllr Karen Ashley, said: “Although the doors to the cash office are closing, customers won’t be faced with a closed door when they visit the Town Hall where a telephone help service will be in place.

“Our staff will also be on hand to ease customers into this new way of making payments as we continue our journey to become a cashless organisation.”

Council leader Matt Dormer said: “Post Covid we have had less visitors to the Town Hall and less staff occupying space here as we adopt an agile working approach.

“These latest moves allow us to further investigate renting out our space to businesses and organisations which is in the commercial interest of this Council.”

Cllr Dormer added: “The transition will be made as seamless as possible.

“We are going to turn the Town Hall into something special.

“There will be a lot of organisations coming into the hall that will deliver great services and make it a community hub.”
