A NEW Lidl store has opened its doors in Redditch, creating around 40 jobs.
The former Arrow Valley Health Club on Battens Drive has received a £6 million transformation by property developer and investor Woodbourne Group.
The store features Lidl's famous bakery, customer toilets including baby-changing facilities and ample parking for cars and bicycles.
Lidl GB’s regional head of property, Iain Ross, said: “It is fantastic that we’ve been able to open our doors and welcome everyone into our new store in Redditch.
"We have received overwhelming support from local residents, and we would like to thank everyone who has played a part in delivering this new store.
"We now look forward to serving our multi-award-winning products to even more people within the local community.”
The store opening times are between 8 am to 10 pm Monday to Saturday, and 10 am to 4 pm on Sunday.
Woodbourne Group chief executive Tani Dulay said: “It is fantastic to see the new Lidl store open its doors to the public.
“The development has transformed the landscape and provided investment into the local economy, giving Redditch access to the convenience and good value associated with the Lidl brand.”
He added: “It was our vision to redevelop the site when we acquired it as a distressed asset and we are grateful for all the support we have received from the local authority and the community.
“Seeing that vision develop into what is a wonderful new addition for Redditch shoppers is very satisfying and we would like to wish Lidl huge success with its new store.”
The site originally opened as Arrow Valley Country Club in the 1980s and was a popular squash and fitness club.
It was taken over by Arrow Valley Health Club Ltd in 2014 but closed in 2020 as one of the commercial victims of Covid-19.
