AN annual 'Plant a Plant Day' at a Redditch school has been deemed a blooming success.

Every year Matchborough First Academy holds a day of horticultural appreciation for children, their families and carers.

The children are asked to bring in plants to fill up planting boxes, pots and flower beds.

This year’s theme was the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee so red, white, blue and purple coloured plants decorated the school's garden.

Plants, pots and compost were donated by Morrison's community champion Beverly Allington.

She said: ” I am really pleased that my role as community champion enables me on behalf of Morrisons to support  these wonderful initiatives.”

Councillor for Matchborough and Ipsley, Juliet Brunner said:”It was delightful to see the children and their families planting the flowers together at the school.

"My thanks go to the school’s ECO champion and all the staff who prepared the school for Plant A Plant Day."
