‘FED up’ residents in Bordesley have launched a campaign to highlight the environmental problems that increased traffic is causing through their village.

Bordesley Matters have set up a petition which they are set to present to Worcestershire County Council on Thursday, May 19.

Their campaign named ‘Bordesley Breathes’ aims to tackle the volume of traffic, reduce the speed of traffic and eliminate the traffic queues capacity at the A441/ Dagnell End Road junction.

Research obtained by the group from Worcestershire County Council state 50 per cent of vehicles travelling through the village are above the speed limit.

There is also a sevenfold increase of HGV’s passing through the village and a 25 per cent over capacity at the A441/Dagnell End Road traffic light junction.

The chair of Bordesley Matters, Karen Kilbride, said: “All these issues have been compounded by the start of the Severn Trent Roadworks along the A441 through Bordesley.

“These road works will last for five months and will result in the usual queues and delays along our road, with stationary vehicles pumping out toxic fumes.

“These road works will be shortly followed by the improvements to the A441/Dagnell End Road traffic lights, a condition of the Weights Lane development. “

Alan Bailes from Bordesley Matters said residents feel fed up and ignored.

He said: “As a county council we want them to help us in a fight to get a better air quality through our village

“We have seen a massive increase in HGV, even though the roads are not made for vehicles of such size – they are causing us a nuisance.”

Alan added: “For the next three to five years there will be continuous roadworks due to the Weights Lane development.

“We are going to get three-quarter of a million more cars down the road – the council need to put more measures in place to mitigate this.”
