A dog-loving homeless man who stabbed a 'drug dealer' in the buttock with a crushed can also assaulted his neighbour and smashed his phone.

Daniel Joseph carried out the attack near Westbury Pocket Park, Westbury Street, Worcester.

He punched his victim, Mohammed Hussain, at least ten times before jabbing him in the bum with the can, causing him to scream in pain.

Malvern man who caused six hour armed siege may end up in tent

At the time Joseph was on a community order for assaulting his then neighbour, including punching him and throwing a bike at him.

Worcester News: Joseph, 46, was jailed for 16 months at Worcester Crown Court for the July 5 attack.

However, because he has been in custody since July 7 last year, Joseph was deemed to have already served that sentence and was told he could expect to be released later that day.

The attack on Mr Hussain was said to have been prompted because the defendant suspected he had stolen items from him in the past, including money and a sleeping bag.

Joseph admitted assault occasioning actual bodily harm after punching the victim at least 10 times and jabbing at his left buttock and right thigh with the crushed can.

Injuries to his buttock and thigh were stitched at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham.

We can reveal that Joseph, now of no fixed abode but previously of Gamekeepers Drive, Brickfields, had also previously assaulted his neighbour - and made himself homeless because he would not leave his dog.

The pet was not permitted to remain with him at the address.

In February last year, he was given a 12-month community order after he assaulted a neighbour who complained about the noise Joseph was making in the form of loud music, filming the attack on his mobile phone.

He punched neighbour Kelvin Mrewa several times in the face and knocked him to the floor, kicking him when he was down.

He also threw a bike at him following a row over noise in Worcester.

Joseph ended up either throwing or knocking the victim's mobile phone out of the window, cracking the screen.

Andrew Davidson, defending, said Joseph had breached the conditions of his housing by having a pet dog. "Rather than putting himself into a position of criminality, he decided to leave and become homeless.

"That put him in a rather vulnerable position as he found himself homeless, being preyed upon" he said.

Judge Martin Jackson said: "I recognise there's some sort of history between you and Mr Hussain and you may well have felt vulnerable yourself at the time.

"Nonetheless, you did take active steps to assault him and did so carrying what was, in effect, a weapon."
