A REDDITCH youngster has made her cinema debut in a new film starring Peter Andre.

Jiya Samra, aged eight, was just six-years-old when she filmed her scenes in British movie ‘On The Other Foot’.

The film, directed by Fredi Nwaka, tells the story of a racist white man who wakes up in a black person’s body and stars Lee Charles, Peter Andre and Chidi Ajufo alongside Redditch’s own Jiya.

Jiya, who attends St Andrews First School in Barnt Green, plays the part of a homeless refugee child and can be seen in the opening shots of the film.

Jiya’s proud mother Gurminder Kaur said: “It was very educational for her, she had to put herself in a homeless person’s situation.

“She did a really good job and got good feedback.”

She added that the role highlights the reality that many children around the face, including youngsters affected by the war in Ukraine.

Jiya and her family attended the premiere of the film in London last November, where she got to walk the red carpet with the rest of the cast.

Jiya has since filmed a second movie, called ‘Ghosted’, which will be released later this year, in which she plays the young version of the lead actress.

The youngster was inspired by the encouragement of her grandmother Resham Sohi, who sadly passed away before the film was finished.

Jiya’s mum said: “Jiya’s Nanna was the anchor in our lives, she lived with us in Redditch and was the person to set Jiya on this journey through her encouragement and support.

“Sadly Jiya’s Nanna passed away before the release of the film but Jiya is sure that Nanna is watching from heaven.”

‘On The Other Foot’ will be screened in 90 Odeon cinemas across the country on Wednesday March 23.
