Firefighters cut off the door of a car to help free a person following a crash on the M1 near Watford.

Hertfordshire Constabulary was called to a collision between junctions 4 and 5 of the motorway at 5.56pm on Sunday, March 14.

A black Mini Cooper and grey Toyota Prius were involved.

Paramedics and fire crews also attended following concerns that someone was trapped.

Police said a person could not get out of his vehicle due to shoulder pain and firefighters cut off the door as a precaution.

He then managed to get out without needing assistance.

Two lanes were closed as emergency services worked at the scene and recovery was arranged for both vehicles.

The lanes were reopened just before 8.30pm.
