PLANS for a residential caravan site near Alcester have been submitted.

A planning application has been put forward to change the use of land on Greenacres off Waterloo Road to accommodate ten mobile homes.

Currently the site is limited to use by gypsies and travellers, but the application seeks to extend tenancy to those who wish to live in static caravans.

The existing planning permission allows for 16 caravans including no more than eight mobile homes and eight touring caravans.

However, applicant James Wilson, wants to reduce the number of caravans to ten and include only static caravans.

Planning documents state it “would not change the character of the use of the land and, therefore, would not intrude into open countryside.”

It notes: “The site owner has only rented pitches to persons who have signed a tenancy agreement which requires that tenants must be persons of nomadic habit in life.

“However, it has been apparent for several years that the need for a caravan site such as this, adjoining the town, is from households wanting low-cost accommodation, located close to the community services and facilities, rather than nomadic gypsies and travellers.”

It goes on to say that the proposals “would allow flexibility in who could occupy the available pitches” and “facilitate a more spacious arrangement of pitches”.

The application will be considered by Stratford-on-Avon District Council planners.
