NEW apartments and commercial space could be built near to Redditch train station if plans are given the green light.

An application has been submitted to Redditch Borough Council to build six apartments and two commercial units on land on Edward Street, to the rear of Bromsgrove Road.

The commercial units would be based on the ground floor of the proposed building, with the apartments spread over two floors above.

Each of the two floors would house three apartments, made up of two two-bedroom and one one-bedroom units.

The proposed building will be a flat roof in a contemporary style which will help to “tidy the area”, the plan states.

The design and access statement reads: "There is an opportunity to effectively link the existing street corner with new development so as to create a vibrant new quarter to the town which should be supported accordingly.”

The application is open for comment on the Redditch Borough Council planning portal under the reference 21/01772/FUL.
