BOOKIES have slashed odds on there being a white Christmas as a 'snowbomb' is set to hit the country this week.

But is Worcester and the wider county set to see the white stuff?

Snow is set to fall across the UK from Thursday as temperatures plunge, The Sun has reported.

Maps from WXCharts show snow and rain sweeping into Scotland and the north of England on December 23.

And snow is reportedly set to sprinkle most of the country including the Midlands on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day according to the maps.

But the current Met Office forecast is for much of the county to have minus temperatures on Tuesday night, before getting up to 8C on Thursday, 7C on Christmas Eve and 5C on Christmas Day.

And because of that Met Office forecasters currently say there will be light rain and lights winds on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, with sleet on Boxing Day - but no snow.

Netweather.tv currently has a prediction of 35 per cent for it to be a white Christmas in the Midlands.

The last time there was thick ground snow in the county on Christmas Day was in 1981, when temperatures plummeted over the festive period to a freezing -17.5C.

In the years since the county has seen patchy snow on the day, particularly 1995, but nothing like the traditional Christmas Card picture.
