HELPING Hands Home Care marked World Heart Day with a ‘Great Helping Hands Bake Off’ at Becketts Farm, Wythall, as part of their efforts to raise £60,000 for the British Heart Foundation.

The Helping Hands senior leadership team and regional care directors competed in pairs to battle for the bake-off crown

The first round was the technical challenge - where you are given the recipe on the day and the finished products are judged blind before being ranked from worst to best. The pairs then took on the showstopper challenge, where they were asked to create a perfect Victoria sponge cake.

Matt Bristow, and Karen Reid were crowned bake off champions, winning their own ‘star baker’ aprons.

Matt said: “I think in all honesty we won on taste and taste alone, nothing was going to top the feel of the 6000-calorie cake that we made! The bake came out pretty perfect after a worrying ten minutes of what felt like a not-set cake.”

In July, Helping Hands announced their 12-month partnership with the British Heart Foundation (BHF). The home care provider has committed to raising £60,000 to mark the charity’s 60th birthday year.

Andy Hogarth, CEO at Helping Hands Home Care, said: “We chose the British Heart Foundation for our partnership due to the relevance of their lifesaving work to so many of our customers. Here at Helping Hands, we are all so proud to be supporting such a fantastic charity.

“We have been blown away by the response from both carers and customers, many of whom have been affected by the devastating heart and circulatory conditions that the British Heart Foundation work so hard to beat.

“From bake sales to bake offs, the fantastic people of Helping Hands have sprung to action in support of the charity’s mission to beat heartbreak forever.”
