STOURBRIDGE Repair Cafe is set to return this month.

The repair cafe volunteers will be back to help people fix their beloved items they can't bring themselves to throw out but they will be offering their service from St Thomas's Church Hall going forwards.

The unit they previously used in The Ryemarket shopping centre has been let to a retailer so the group has moved into the church hall, in Market Street, opposite The Ryemarket.

Volunteers skilled at all kinds of repairs aim to help people avoid the need to buy replacement items and reduce the number of old possessions sent to landfill.

The first repair cafe will take place on Saturday September 25.

Doors will be open at 10am and the last item for repair will be taken at 1.30pm as work finishes at 2pm.

Repair cafe spokesperson Marion Meadows said: "During lockdown our sewing volunteers were brilliant in taking on the challenge of providing laundry bags to our NHS.

"One of our volunteers in particular produced hundreds of the bags, all of which were collected and utilised.

"These same volunteers of our sewing section will be happy to now take the challenge of repairs to a much loved or necessary garment or household soft-furnishing whilst our fine art, ceramics and jewellery volunteers will again be producing amazing results with their talents.

"We are grateful that St Thomas Church Hall has been able to accommodate us and our future sessions will also be at that venue."

She said home-made cake and tea and coffee will be in plentiful supply for people to enjoy while waiting for the volunteers to mend items.

A second repair cafe will be held at the venue on October 23 from 10am until 2pm and on November 20.

There will be no repair cafe in December.
