MONEY for new windows and doors at Alcester’s Greig Hall is set to be provided by Stratford District Council – one of three projects to benefit from its community infrastructure levy (CIL) – allowing the building to open before the end of the year.

The £50,000 cash boost was approved at this week’s cabinet meeting of Stratford District Council along with £5,910 for electric vehicle charging points at Napton Village Hall and £5,000 to Stratford’s Meon Vale pavilion community project.

The work on the Greig Hall, coupled with the replacement of a flat roof on the building which has been boarded up for ten years, should see it open in December when it will stage a Christmas craft event. Further renovation work are expected to continue in the new year.

Councillor for Alcester and Rural, Mark Cargill said: “This has been a long journey for the Greig Hall – we have the T-shirts and have picked up a few scars along the way.

“Work is moving ahead – work has started on the roof – and I would like to thank the council for their support over the years. It will be a fantastic community centre when it is done and I’m really looking forward to inviting you all to our first event on December 4.”

A number of other projects failed to secure CIL funding but will go forward to future rounds. These included flood management measures on the Alne and Arrow in Alcester and improvements to Studley’s Pool Medical Centre.

Councillor for Alcester Town, Susan Juned said: “The impact of flooding in Alcester is quite considerable so I do hope that something can be done on that – it is in the order of 120 houses that are impacted in the town every time it floods.”
