A GROUP of Alcester Academy students got to celebrate the end of their school lives with a special homemade prom after their school event was cancelled.

With proms called off across the country due to the pandemic, many school leavers have missed out on the chance to mark the end of their secondary school days.

Alcester Academy's prom had been cancelled twice so mum Verity Mee decided to hold a celebration for daughter Neve and her friends last weekend at their home in Salford Priors.

Around 20 friends attended the home celebration, which was kitted out with a marquee and dance floor, and they got the chance to wear their prom dresses.

Sarah Jones, whose daughter Chloe attended the prom, said: "Lots of fun and laughter was had by all. They very much needed party after two years of studying for GCSE’s through Covid."

The teens received their GCSE results last Thursday and did "amazingly well", Sarah added.
