A QUARRY Bank schoolgirl was lucky to escape with relatively minor injuries after she was hit by a car as she walked along the pavement on Thorns Road.

Concerned dad Darren Hadlington told how his daughter Lacey, aged 13, was knocked to the floor by a car, believed to be a white Audi, last Tuesday night (July 20).

The teenager suffered bruising and burn type wounds to her skin in the incident which happened at around 6.30pm the night before she was due to break up from school for the summer holiday.

He told the News the car mounted the kerb on the Thorns Collegiate Academy side of the dual carriageway, and he said: "If she'd been that little bit closer to the road it could have been a different story. Why was the car even on the kerb?"

The teenager, who had only just celebrated her 13th birthday the day before, was taken to hospital by her mum Daniella to be checked over but luckily she avoided serious injury.

Mr Hadlington said: "She feels ok now, she was just shocked and scared and she's been in a lot of pain."

West Midlands Police confirmed they were investigating the incident, which occurred near to the junction with Dudley Road, and a spokesman for the force added: "The car failed to stop at the scene and CCTV will be reviewed to try and identify the driver.
