KINGFISHER Shopping Centre have applied to demolish one of its multi storey car parks.

If the planning application is passed by Redditch Borough Council then car park seven is set to be knocked down.

The six storey car park has been closed since last November.

Ken Williams, Kingfisher centre manager said the only viable option is to demolish the car park due to health and safety concerns.

He said: “Having conducted an in-depth structural assessment and evaluation of Car Park 7 since it closed at the end of November 2020, including health and safety considerations, we have concluded that the demolition of the current structure is the only viable option.

"We understand that this will be disappointing to some residents and apologise for any inconvenience this may cause to our visitors, but with over 2,400 spaces available across our four other multi-storey car parks we will continue to provide ample parking for our Kingfisher guests and convenient access to the centre from the Ringway.”

The future redevelopment of the lane off Church Road is unknown at this stage.

It is hoped that demolition work can begin on September 1.
