A POWER outage affected more than 350 properties in Redditch this morning (June 7) after an electrical substation caught fire.

Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service was called to a fire at the electrical substation on Plymouth Road, near Redditch bus station.

Two engines from Redditch were sent out to the fire which was caused by an electrical fault at 9.30am.

A team from Western Power Distribution was called out to the incident. Road closures at Plymouth Road and Bromsgrove Road were also in place.

A spokesperson for Western Power said: "A fault on the underground network resulted in 350 properties losing power at 9.30am.

"Some of the properties affected were on Bromsgrove Road and Plymouth Road. All supplies were restored by 11.15am and engineers are now working to locate the fault and carry out repairs.

"We do not expect supplies to be affected again.
