WORCESTERSHIRE health bosses are emphasising the importance of having both doses of Covid vaccine.

From this week, anyone over 30 years of age are also included in the list of those eligible to receive the vaccine so are encouraged to book an appointment by calling 119 or using the National Booking System on the NHS website.

Dr. Katherine Cobain, director of Public Health in Worcestershire said: “As we all start to enjoy the easing of lockdown restrictions, it is important to remember that COVID-19 is still with us. Having a vaccination helps to protect you, your loved ones and your community. It also helps our county get back to a more normal way of life. If you are offered a vaccination, I’d urge you to have it, and also to ensure you have your second dose, to ensure you get the maximum protection. “

Across the two counties nearly 75% of the adult population have had at least one dose of the vaccine so far.

Simon Trickett, chief executive officer for NHS Herefordshire and Worcestershire Clinical Commissioning Group said: "I’m pleased at how the NHS, Councils and other partners are working together to deliver the vaccination programme to our residents and how grateful we are for people’s support in coming forward to be vaccinated. We are committed to find innovative ways to get the vaccine to our communities where we need to and we urge everyone who is eligible and hasn’t yet come forward or are due for their second dose to make sure they book in."

Those who have had a first vaccine but have not yet been contacted for their second appointment can book themselves by contacting 119 or using the national booking system on the NHS website.
