Anyone for afternoon tea?

Thanks to lockdown restrictions, it’s been so long since we could treat ourselves to a meal out.

However, with restaurants back open it’s time to celebrate with a selection of scones, dainty sandwiches (and maybe even a cheeky glass of prosecco).

We have tracked down some of the most popular places in Worcestershire to visit for afternoon tea- will you be visiting any this May bank holiday weekend?

1. G & Tea Bakery, Friar Street, Worcester

In 2020, this was one of the top-rated places for afternoon tea in Worcestershire.

When you take a look at the menu, it’s clear to see why.

Their famous gin cocktails are served out of a real, vintage teapot  but diners can also opt to have a glass of Prosecco instead.

Their afternoon tea menu caters towards a lot of people, with scones and sandwiches just some items on the menu.

Selection of teas and prices:

  • Cream tea- £5.50
  • Savoury cream tea- £5.50
  • Traditional afternoon tea- £28.50 (for two)
  • Savoury afternoon tea- £10 for one of £18.50 for two.

2. Centenary lounge, The Cross, Worcester

According to their website: “Afternoon teas may be the most quintessential of English customs and we have a wonderful range for everyone to enjoy.”

At their Worcester branch, their afternoon teas range from £19 per person- £25 per person depending on how luxe you want your afternoon tea to be.

You can also upgrade your afternoon tea to a boozy prosecco feast for an additional £6 per person.

Vegan or gluten free? They cater for you too and have an special afternoon tea for £21 per person.

3. Mulberry Tree restaurant, Mount Pleasant Hotel, Malvern

At the Mount Pleasant Hotel, they treat Afternoon Tea as a “celebration of tradition and rejoicing the company of loved ones over a cup of tea and delicious nibbles.”

Here is their full menu:

  • Cream teas £7.00 

Home-made scones, strawberry jam, clotted cream served with tea or filter coffee.

  • Afternoon teas £17.00 

Selection of finger sandwiches, home-made scones, mini cake selection, strawberry jam, clotted cream  served with tea or filter coffee.

  • Royal afternoon teas £23.00 

Selection of finger sandwiches, home-made scones, mini cake selection, strawberry jam, clotted cream  served with tea or filter coffee and a 20 cc bottle of Prosecco.

4. Aldwyn’s at Ellerslie, Abbey Road, Malvern

Their afternoon tea is served 12pm-4pm daily- and their menu looks mouthwateringly good.

Mini strawberry cheesecake, carrot and walnut cake, chicken & tarragon mayo sandwich fingers and white chocolate house baked scones are just some of the items you can spy on the menu.

This afternoon tea is £17.90 per person.

Alternatively, you can upgrade to an afternoon tea with free flowing prosecco (for 90 minutes) for £26.95.

5. Evesham Hotel and Spa, Coopers Lane, Evesham

Afternoon tea is served here Tuesday-Sunday between 12pm and 5pm.

Dishes are created to order which means we are able to accommodate most dietary requirements.

For £17.50 you get:

  • Chef’s Selection of Finger Sandwiches
  • Scone with Clotted Cream & Preserve
  • Selection of Mini Cakes
  • Tea or Coffee

6. The Twisted Spoon, Worcester Road, Upton Snodsbury

The Twisted Afternoon High Tea is served 2-5pm everyday and it MUST be booked 24 hours in advance.

It’s also reasonably priced at £12 per guest- or £16 if you want to upgrade it to a prosecco afternoon teas.

Finger sandwiches, warm savouries, homemade scones and cakes are all served on slate benches.

7. Terrace on the Hill, Worcester Road, Malvern

It doesn’t matter if you have a small appetite or an endless one- there is an afternoon tea on this menu to suit your preferences.

Here is the full menu:

Afternoon Tea – fruit scone with strawberry jam, clotted cream, and your choice of tea or coffee £6.45.

High Tea– fruit or plain scone with strawberry jam, clotted cream, Finger sandwiches, cup cake and a tartlet, and your choice of tea or coffee £15.95 per person.

Decadent High Tea – A glass of Prosecco, Fruit or plain scone with strawberry jam, clotted cream, Finger sandwiches, A cup cake and a tartlet and your choice of tea or coffee £21.50 per person.

8. Brockencote Hall Hotel,  Kidderminster

Fancy a trip to Kidderminster?

The afternoon teas at this hotel are raves about in reviews and Google comments.

One person wrote: “The hotel is lovely as was the lounge where we sat to have afternoon tea. The staff were very professional and attentive. The food was excellent with a nice selection.”

You can grab an tea here from Wednesday- Sunday 2:30pm-4pm.

Their sample afternoon tea menu includes coronation chicken sandwiches, spiced banana cake, raisin and apple scones, orange macaroons and more.

The full afternoon tea is £25 per person while the Rich Tea (their full afternoon tea, served with your choice of loose leaf tea or coffee with a glass of Veuve Clicquot Rich, served over ice, with a choice of garnish) is £43 per person.

9. The Garden Afternoon Tea Rooms, Worcester Road, Worcester

All teas here are served on vintage tiered china plates.
