THE electric scooter trial zone in Redditch has now been expanded for the second time since its launch.

The new zone will now enable those living in Ipsley, Winyates, Matchborough, Churchill and Crabbs Cross to get where they need to go.

E-scooter operator Bird launched its service in Redditch in October last year. Since then, it's has helped thousands of people travel without the need for a car.

The trial zone was doubled in size in January.

As part of the expansion, Bird is working with the council to install signage in Arrow Valley to help riders navigate easily between East and West Redditch.

Scooters will only be able to ride on the permitted route though the park by the Visitor Centre, ensuring a safer and more enjoyable experience for everyone in the park.

Charlotte Bailey, General Manager of Bird UK said: “This further expansion is testament to how well people in Redditch have taken to the service. We’re delighted to be able to offer our service to even more residents in the town so they can get about more conveniently than ever before. As the town starts to open up following the pandemic we want people to think twice about taking their cars for short journeys and help them connect to the station for longer trips.”

Leader of Redditch Borough Council Matt Dormer said:“This further expansion is really exciting for people living in the east and south west of the town. Bird is helping us all to think twice before jumping in our cars which is helping to reduce congestion and improve the air quality for everyone in Redditch.”
