A REDDITCH home care company has given out ‘random acts of kindness’ boxes to the community.

Home Instead Redditch and Bromsgrove have randomly handed out boxes containing small treats including tea, coffee, hot chocolate, biscuits, and activity booklets, hoping to bring a smile to the face of the recipients.

Zoe Mucklow, community development officer at Home Instead commented: “The lockdown restrictions have meant that loneliness and isolation has hit an all time high within the local community. Wanting to tackle this, I came up with the idea of the random act of kindness boxes.

“Usually, we would be out in the community at dementia cafés or local groups where we can speak to elderly people within the community and provide some company and advice, but these have been unable to run throughout the pandemic. I wanted to find a creative way of connecting with others in the community who we don’t provide care to.”

The boxes have been distributed throughout the local area with the help of Home Instead’s staff and caregivers and were easily posted through letterboxes.

Zoe added: “It is just a simple gesture to let our local community know that someone is thinking about them. Although small, it is a kind enough gesture to brighten someone’s day! We have already heard back from one recipient who was very touched to have been delivered a box following a stint in hospital.”

Home Instead Redditch and Bromsgrove provide home care services to elderly and vulnerable people across the areas, with their services ranging from home help to more specialist dementia and post-operation care.
