REDDITCH Conservatives have secured another victory after taking all eight seats in the four divisions of the borough

Borough Council leader Matt Dormer says he is "buzzing" following the county council election results.

He told the Advertiser: "We have got seven brand new county councillors. It's absolutely fantastic.

"It's great for the town and the people of Redditch.

"We have got to make sure we deliver for the town now and that's everything.

"We want the town to be more aspirational. We want better for the people of Redditch."

The Conservatives also gained seven Labour seats in the borough council election, including those of party leader Bill Hartnett, deputy leader Greg Chance.

Reacting to the results, former Redditch group leader Bill Hartnett, said: "It was a shock on both sides of the chamber.

"No one expected these results. Clearly Redditch voted on national issues - I think the Covid bounce played really well.

"We are all grateful for the vaccine, but I think that's what was on people's minds. I think it was the national issues that ruled the day.

"It was a shock, I've been  elected a councillor since 1985.

"I want to thank everyone who voted. Hopefully we'll be back and winning seats next year."
