HUNDREDS of jobs created by Amazon's investment in Redditch are set to be "game-changing" for the town.

The e-commerce company's 10,000 square metre fulfilment centre is currently under construction on the Redditch Gateway site and is expected to be fully operational by this Autumn.

The fulfilment centre will create 300 jobs when it opens, and up to 600 jobs in total by Autumn 2022.

Amazon will also be opening a delivery station on Hedera Road, Moans Moat North, which will accompany the fulfilment centre.

The station will create up to 40 permanent jobs, in addition to the more than a hundred driver opportunities for Amazon Logistics’ delivery service partners and Amazon Flex delivery partners.

Coupled together, Amazon’s fulfilment centre and delivery station in Redditch could see more than 750 jobs created in total.

Leader of Redditch Borough Council, Matt Dormer, and Redditch MP Rachel Maclean, visited the fulfilment centre last month.

Councillor Matt Dormer said: “We know the pandemic has hit our economy hard, and so the creation of hundreds of good paying jobs is something Redditch will be in need of as we recover from the impact of the pandemic.

Rachel Maclean, added: “The creation of hundreds of good paying, high-skilled jobs is game-changing and is a sign of confidence in Redditch’s economy as we build back better from Covid-19.”
