A WOMAN who has arranged flowers on several Hollywood film sets has decided to open up her own floristry business in Alvechurch.

Kamie Cheyne, aged 33, who was born in Stourbridge, is a wedding and events florist who is about to open her own luxury studio The Floral Cheyne after suffering a set back due to the pandemic.

She started her floristry business full time just before the Covid crisis hit last year, but it suffered a blow when weddings and events were cancelled across the country. The Floral Cheyne, which is located at the Old Forge in the square, officially opens today (Friday, April 30).

Previously, Mrs Cheyne moved to London to work in the TV and film industry. She started off working on Escape to the Country before landing jobs on blockbuster movies.

She's worked as a horticultural set dresser for Disney productions including the Jungle Book, Alice in Wonderland and Beauty and the Beast.

She said her decision to put her fast-paced life style on hold and move back to the West Midlands in 2016 wasn't an easy one. "I was homesick and I wanted to be closer to my family. It was quite a big thing to leave behind", she said.

Now she is looking forward to opening her new studio. She said: "It's taken a long time to get here and it's not been easy."

"I’ve personally fought for some kind of parity all the way through and completely pivoted my florist business to survive.

"I have since received small local grants, and am currently involved in a funded accredited business course run by Aston University.

"The studio is a luxury environment for all couples to experience an unforgettable and dedicated floral journey for their wedding day alongside a luxury retail space where I have teamed up with several local craftspeople to offer wedding or botanically or eco friendly gifts and homeware.

"The ethos is heavily to support small businesses and something really special for the village."

The Floral Cheyne is a luxury studio specialising in florals for weddings, events and corporate occasions. Alongside creating season bouquets, they offer handcrafted gifts and confectionery in our botanical luxury gift shop.
