EMERGENCY crews were called out to three open fires in the same area of Redditch yesterday (Monday, April 19).

Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service has confirmed that one of the fires, off Oak Tree Avenue, was caused by youths.

A spokesperson for the fire service said: "There is no specific indication that all of the incidents were caused by the same individuals, however as all three took place in the same area within the space of six hours, it does seem hugely coincidental."

A crew from Redditch Fire Station first attended a grass fire in the area at 3.28pm. They were later called to another at 6.40pm and a final fire, caused by youths, at 9.44pm.

Fires were extinguished using a hosereel jet at all three incidents.

There were no casualties at any of the incidents, which were not attended by any other emergency services. However, West Mercia Police have been informed about the final of the three incidents.

The Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson added: "In the current dry conditions, with little or no rain forecast in the immediate future, people are asked to take extra care as they make the most of the weather and enjoy the outdoors."
