WITNESSES are being asked to come forwards after a man died when a car hit a lamp post in Redditch.

West Midlands Ambulance Service was called at 10.16pm on Thursday night (March 4) to the junction of Bromsgrove Road and Alvechurch Highway to reports of a road crash.

Three ambulances, a paramedic officer, a MERIT trauma doctor and critical care paramedic were dispatched to the scene but the driver of the car passed away at the scene.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokeswoman said: “When crews arrived on scene, they found a man, the driver of a car, in a critical condition.

"Crews worked with fire service colleagues to rapidly extricate the man from the vehicle before the team of medics commenced advanced life support.

“Sadly, despite the best efforts of everyone, nothing could be done to save the man and he was confirmed dead a short time later at the scene.”

Police are now appealing for witnesses.

A spokesman for West Mercia Police said: "At around 10.20pm on Thursday, March 4, a red Vauxhall Astra was travelling on the A441 Alvechurch Highway when it left the road.

"Emergency services attended but sadly the driver, a 27-year-old man, died at the scene.
