HEALTH chiefs have hit back at criticism over the perceived lack of uptake over Covid-19 vaccinations at a centre in the city.

A woman who recently visited St Peter’s Baptist Church in Worcester for her Covid-19 vaccination said the centre was “run very well” and she got in quickly for her jab after applying online - but was worried as even though the venue was fully staffed, she did not notice many patients during her visit.

The site is being run by SW Healthcare, a federation of GP practices in Worcestershire, and has been established in partnership with a range of organisations across the health and care system.

The woman who does not want to be identified said: “I counted about three with many more members of staff - are people not signing up online to get vaccinated?”

However, health chiefs have said the county is "leading the way" with its vaccinations and well on target.

A spokesman from Herefordshire and Worcestershire CCG said:

“Herefordshire and Worcestershire are leading the way with the Covid-19 vaccination programme and the latest NHSE published figures show 226,241 vaccinations have now been delivered.

“Vaccinations are being delivered at community sites by primary care networks and at larger vaccination centres. Staff and volunteer rotas and resource at all sites are based closely on expected vaccine supply and booking uptake at each location to ensure the appropriate use of NHS resources.

“The NHS is confident that the supplies and booking slots are available to accommodate the expected number of people who may now come forward.”
